Jordan Wilkinson is a filmmaker and theatre director whose work explores themes of identity, belonging, resilience, and human connection. Raised on a farm in the Gold Coast and Scenic Rim, Jordan’s upbringing, shaped by three generations of women, instilled a deep connection to the natural world and a strong sense of resilience. These elements continue to inform their creative practice, which seeks to craft bold, immersive narratives that challenge perspectives and foster meaningful connections.
Jordan’s passion for storytelling began in childhood, nurtured by Friday nights spent watching films with their mum. These experiences ignited a love for cinema and its transformative power. After being told they wouldn’t make it to university, Jordan used this as motivation, watching a new film every day for two years to immerse themselves in various styles and techniques. This commitment to self-education fueled their desire to become a filmmaker.
Jordan’s career spans directing, producing, and creative development across film, television, and theatre. They have worked on major productions like Elvis (Warner Bros.) and Harrow (ABC Disney), gaining expertise in balancing creative vision with the demands of high-level production. Their time at BAZMARK, the creative home of Baz Luhrmann, enriched their understanding of visual storytelling and historical preservation, particularly through their work on Strictly Ballroom and Romeo+Juliet’s 25th Anniversary.
One of Jordan’s most personal projects, Talisman, began as a web series and evolved into an immersive art installation, focusing on the coming-out experience in regional Australia. This project exemplifies their commitment to representing diverse voices and creating spaces for dialogue. As an inclusive producer with BUSSTOP Films, Jordan has supported the creation of three short films, ensuring diverse stories are authentically represented.
Recognition of Jordan’s work includes a Writer’s Residency with Australians in Film for their feature Northanger Abbey and funding from Arts Queensland for Talisman. Their work as Associate Producer for BLEACH* Festival and Creative Producer for Somerset Storyfest also showcases their ability to blend live performance with cinematic elements.
At the core of Jordan’s practice is a dedication to truth, authenticity, and artistic excellence. Their work aims not only to entertain but to provoke thought, inspire change, and amplify underrepresented voices. As they continue to develop new projects, Jordan remains focused on exploring the complexities of identity, representation, and human experience.
